Today we celebrate our Nation, one of oldest countries in the world, with a diverse and rich culture, glorious history and of greatest respect, so many facts and accomplishments could be enunciated but best to leave you with the EU Council video:

Forged in 1128, cimented in 1139 and 1143 and transnationally recognized in 1179 by Pope Alexander III in his Bula Manifestis Probatum, Portugal is the oldest nation-state around.


June 10th was known during the Estado Novo authoritarian regime (not fascist like ignorants tend to perceive it) as Day of the Race, which celebrated Portugal's universality, its heroes and collective historical greatness. Now, and similar to what was known and celebrated before the rise of the Estado Novo, it's known as the Day of Camões (our greatest author, who wrote about the Portuguese Discoveries and Portuguese Historical greatness whilst bluntly criticising the society and those surrounding the then-King. a total jackass), of the Portuguese Communities (celebrating the universality of Portugal and its immigrant people, across the world) and of Portugal, celebrating its history.

This year the 10th of June will be celebrated in Boston and across the United States, with the Portuguese Government present in most of the largest portuguese-dominated cities in the US; last year was in Brazil and in 2016 was in Paris and across france, where 1.000.000+ Portuguese live
