Looking back on the player lists and thinking about the players that have come through over the past 4/5 years. I personally can't identify a single strong "new" competitive player beyond Prometheus and JF from 2015 (specifically after summer). You could argue a case for Njab, but lets not.

It seems to me that while more CW's were played last season, the talent pools are getting dryer and dryer.

Am I wrong?

If I'm right what could be done to change this?

Seeing clans like Illyria reform and recruiting is a promising sign but will it be enough?

You're not a 2015 player and you're not the calibre I'm talking about.

2014 had players like Opi, Zone, Soldier, Ghost, Dizabo, Sun Tzu and Mecoy....

search for that standard of comp player with registration in 2015 and theres not much to look at.

Players take time to grow good, and taking the long view here (and despite my rank I've had quite a long view) the situation is looking quite good actually. Reputations of players that joined in 2014 were forged by the duels and cw's they played in 2015, so let's not be too hasty about judgement of last year. Only people who play constantly and learn fast will manage to become a very strong player in under a year.

Loads of new 6/7/8's are turning up all over the place this year - Darth, Domo and Krypt in Enigma, Double and aesthetic from EC (and sixtyfour and rebel12 if they stay active), Zenith (wherever he is a the moment) and Pereuve, not to mention the 4 op r6's from SM - Check, Areton, Universali and Jozias. And that's just the players I can currently think of. There are lots of lower rank 3v3's going on these days with players who are actually very good at the moment. Some of those registered in 2015 and some this year, but it hardly matters, the point being that It's been a long time since I saw this many new players wanting to play competitively turn up.

to add to it, we also have new scenario players such as: Str4toS, General De Seoul, Bobbybe, Senichi, and a few other low ranks.

I am tottally not a competitive player, don't put me in the same cage as the "most overlord" AW players such as opi, Zone and Dizabo, please.

(yes I was sarcastic)

Prometheus, Kraigg, Darkmace and me are competitive players from 2015, problem? Maybe JFreders too, as he didn't play at all until 2015. And the guys who are getting better a lot on competitive scene are Tizini and Gogok (a bit inactive).

Problem doesn't lie in players from 2015. The real question is, will we have good competitive players from 2016?

We have seen the numbers, I think you have also. There are fewer higher ranks than there have ever been in the past, but there are way more newer players also. In time I am sure newb players will continue to come out and have fun and be competitive.

I completely agree, we can see 3vs3 and similar team competitive games as well as duels on all maps hosted by low and mid ranks.

Well who to blame?

Once in a month strategies get changed/boosted/nerfed, discussions about lowranks once in a week. Mapeditor still not being worked on, sp farms here and there, dealing with rankism everyday. A community thats torn apart and terrible to eachother when it comes down to differences.

How do you expect people to enjoy a game like this when all these things are happening? When you dont enioy a game, you dont stick around.

When I started out last year I didn't really understand what clan-hopping would do to me. Because I clan hopped, I have not gotten the opportunities that other low ranks have. I wish I could restart and follow along the same paths that players like Domo, Darth, Prometheus, and others took. I do wonder if I would be a better player had I understood the danger of clan-hopping. My skills are probably not as good as they could have been had I stuck with a clan.

That being said, I think the reason Prometheus is so good is that although he has been in a few clans, he trained in SJ and SA, went to VS until VS died, and went to Enigma where he has developed into probably the best player out of 2015. So I do think we need to warn low ranks that have potential to stay in their clans that they are learning in, until they are totally ready for the competitive scene. I warn every player I meet about this, and have since taken an oath of loyalty to stay in VS till a specific date, unless we revive then I will stay for longer.

Reasons prom is good are
1) 80% of games he plays are duels
2) he is smart
3) combination of 1) and 2)
Training bla bla is non sense no one ever trained me

Having spent time training zenith and Prometheus I'd like to say training helps people in the right direction, it can speed up the process of becoming a solid player, but how far you actually go is entirely down to individual intelligence and attitude as you say. Some guys are just untrainable, others only need to be shown something once or twice. The most important thing is attitude which translates into your patience and how easily you give up.

Thee are some guys who aren't very bright but are half decent players because they keep working at it
