Not urgent, just an idea. Easy to implement, would have a little balancing effect. Would be selectable in lobby (preferably even the multiplier could be set). On flat maps like Europe it is an advantage to select a starting country on the edge, you are likely to have less enemy neighbours, your capital is harder to reach, you have to pay attention to shorter frontlines usually. So having an army maintenance - which would mean that the already in game upkeep cost would be increasing getting further from your capital - would have two balancing effects: - flat map, starting in the middle would have a slight advantage compared to starting on the edge, - huge empires would have a little extra cost, giving a little chance for smaller ones. Wouldn't affect units that haven't moved in the turn, so defence wouldn't be 'punished'.

Imagine this implemented on Ancient.... Mace and Sparta would become even stronger than they already are.... Imagine this implemented on Dreamworld..... the centre would be an even stronger pick than it already is compared to the sides.... Imagine this implemented on Eu+.... Hi Germany The only case in which such thing could have a use would be in the world map since it has no limits, you can go around the world.
