when i play a player i judge them off the intelligence i see in their gameplay, their strategic thinking. Its the little things a player does when you play them that shows how good they really are.

3 major reasons about why intelligence isn't the best indicator of a player's strength:

1. Intelligence is very generic, you can be smart at some things and not at others.
2. Intelligence can also be biased, you for example would assume that a player is noob simply because he rushed.
3. Intelligence without knowledge about the game is useless.

1. It's dominated by me and EC. Recognizing the elo system as a fair indicator would'be the same to recognize our strength, something you would never do.
2. You've failed to progress via this method. Not only that but you're also unable to see why Zone, Goblin and even Eagle reached further than you.
3. You've no reason to disqualify njab's ELO peak, therefore you use bluecher's peak as an excuse to point out a flaw. That there is no perfect system is something we all know. But you've also intentionally skipped the fact that bluecher's ELO peak, just like innate's and many others has been reviewed and disqualified from the atWar recordbook, and are therefore not considered as official.

2 major reasons about why neither of them can be considered part of the best players currently:
1. Inactivity / both rusty.
2. Few influence at other maps in the game.

3 major reasons about why you picked theses two particular players:
1. They are your friends.
2. They've got a reputation among the community.
3. They're both considerably good at Eu+, map which you consider to be the whole atWar game.

Njab on the other hand, his only win against me in duels or indeed anything is on a map he has 100s of games on with an advantaged pick. Why would i be afraid of him and why should i respect him?

i never said that either. id never even played a 1v1 on africa before so i had no idea. at a glance i guessed cameroon would be stronger but i was wrong, simply on the grounds that you could reach ethiopia faster and hit it harder. tophats said it was unbeatable, not me. I played Ontario vs Clovis' Guatemala 3 times. He lost 2 out of the 3. Map is perfectly fine in terms of balance, stop whining about it like a little girl. I don't need to be anything special on an online game, it's your problem if you think that I think I am "a little special snowflake". If you are that good, why you play only one map?

obviously. I can say I am one of the guys who played the most diverse maps on AtWar and that I have positive W:L ratio on almost all if not all of them.

the most diverse map on atwar is europe+ 10k, this is why we play it. Your 600 duels or whatever it is now are all divided between america north 5k and mideast 3k. 2 settings with 2-3 viable picks. You talk about diversity... Europe+ 3-10k encompass all types of gameplay with all the strategies. I saw you were playing dreamworld for a while, you lost a bit on it and then a while later you were saying it was a shit map thats all about port control.

You were raving about destoria to me then you cwd me and acquiesce on it and lost by t5. Suddenly the map was "boring" and you didnt want to play it anymore.

You play na and mideast because theyre the only shot you have at high elo. Fact. If any good players cared enough to play there a bit youd get wrecked and suddenly wed see you playing something else.

Your overdedication to work on one map as the moderator is one of the main reasons why competitive community is on the decline, by the way.

in my brief year as a mod i had nothing to do with that "one map". It hasnt been altered in 4 years. The competitive community is in decline because of the huge learning curve on this game, lack of developement and its' niche nature. Hell we cant even keep a league active where the admins are giving out free premium. Thats how fucked it is. As i said enjoy it while it lasts.

ive never been one to shy away from calling a spade a spade clovis. Ever wonder in your little bubble why a significant portion of the community rails against you and your forum posts? For a guy who tries to make a big show of applying critical thinking to his forum posts you really fail dramatically at it and instead just piss everyone off. the only thing I see these days are clans (Enigma, Ionia, Illy, Aristokrats, etc...) talking about EC being so cocky (especially njab) and doing such a things in CWs vs everyone.

@those judging me/chess, I've basically quit atWar and can compare with most current players still. I'm sure with actually playing several games a day I'd be far more capable than what you think now.

It isn't proper of you to speak like that. We did had several 5k 2vs2 encounters which were all won by me and Kraigg. As for the you/lao/dbacks team (all three together), never remember to have hear about such proposal for CW.

Not only that, we've also played a 2vs2 you and lao/dhax vs me and zone. I'm sure we've played more games together but this and the above are the only ones recorded in your profile / SM's clan page. I'm sure I don't need to bring the proof here, but you can always look for it if you need to.

Epic Clan is not a pure Eu+ clan and we certainly don't force our members to play. In the last days of the season neither me nor njab wanted to play 3v3 eu+. I changed my mind and accepted Zone's 1vs1 proposal, while njab had to go to bed (past midnight in his timezone). Some of our players wanted to play in EU so we let them plan their CW. It's only fair that they look for players that match their experience level, and letting you or lao play would'be an abuse against them. Furthermore, if you don't like the fact that we decline unfair coalition wars, remember that it were the top tier clans who grave us the elo to reach the top. If what you don't like is the fact that we don't always play Eu+, then come beat us in another map if you dare.

Nobody questions your experience or your ability to return back to the competitive scene. However, on your current status I highly doubt you'll be able to compete against the current top tier players. As njab said previously, the tactics had improved a lot since the last time. Let alone play outside of your confort zone / Europe +.

Why I don't play it? It is completely boring. I can tell you almost everything is based on early game which almost everybody memorizes. Rare people don't, they have all of my respect for that. I always pick Syria on Middle East and always pick Ontario on North America? You are really blind if you think that. You should stop trying to make fake excuses for your total failure to do basic gameplay on a map that you haven't played at least 1000 times before. Let's bet on your "1400" elo. Even if you somehow get to 1400, you wouldn't be able to hold it if you continued to do the high rank duels.

Okay, have just collected for about 150 elo today, will do everything so i can rise in your eyes of a player xD

As for stuff in the thread, being inactive i dont have a solid opinion, but heres my 50 cents.

1. Not sure about njab's skill level, i played him in a cw after one year inactivity, wasnt much impressed tbh, but i could be wrong. I can atest to the cocky part though, since we both hit the same country turn 1 and won and i remember he overpraised himself over that. Strong players usually never gloss over first turn expansion.

2. The fact that someone can stop playing the map he likes (eu) which just happens to be the only competitive map (to an extent) because of some bad encounters with members of this community, is also not a good indicator of a strong player.

3. When most of the community critisize some part of your clans ethics and/or tactics, i think it would be a good course of action to accept it and maybe change for the better.

Second, I don't give a fuck about their peaks. They are nothing nowadays. Nothing. One of them is a horrible mod (actually the worst one, most inconsistent mod which involves his personal feelings into the modship, he even deleted mod logs of him muting me for 24h due to his personal psychological problems), too.

I have never beaten you on Europe? Your memory must be really short if you think that. But yeah, let's play EU+ 10k in duel which you played only 3000 times. I have beaten almost every high rank "competitive" player on their own preferred map -- Europe(+) 10k. I have no idea what are you talking about when you say how I miserably "suck" at your autistic map and that's the reason why I stopped playing it.

Your 800 duels or whatever it is now are all divided between EU+ 10k and EU 10k. 2 settings with 2-3 viable picks. You talk about diversity... You play only Turkey and Ukraine. On EU 10k you play only UK and Germany, sometimes France. Tell me what's the difference then? It's all same shit. All maps have a few best picks, stop playing a blind eye game with me.

I never said any map is boring, not even EU. I said that people who want to play it 24/7 in every single competitive game are boring. Get your facts straight. Destoria and Dreamworld are mostly about port control, saying otherwise shows you have no basic understanding of map concepts. It looks like you gotta play 3000 more games there so you start understanding the map. Last time we played on Destoria, you capped me by 2-3 units only because you TBed my 2nd move from a city (I don't remember which one, it had an AT) and I played horribly in that game. You got wrecked in the next game, because you picked the worst strat possible.

Those high elo guys tried hard. Only one who succeeded a bit was opi, but he got wrecked shortly after (he even blamed servers for his total failure). You are one of those high elo guys who miserably failed to beat me out of their preferred map.

Competitive community is on decline because it always focused on one map. Always one map. Ask many high ranks and low ranks why they don't want to be part of competitive community, you'll always get same answer -- because they need to join a coalition where they make us memorise expansions for always the same map. And you did have the impact on it, especially regarding the strategies. Strategies are always focused on EU+ gameplay, not even world map or any custom map. Almost all mapmakers were against doing that, and said that we should have strategies based on all types of units. Some of the guys who supported that were Aetius, Pyrrhus, Tunder, bonker, Tik-Tok, clovis. I can tell they all deserve to be known more than any EU fags such as Chess and Desu who have done nothing for this game to grow, nor to keep the players at it. You think they are better than average because they have shown you how to reach Rome as Turkey? One of the side effects of your autistic way of changing strategies is that new maps (including the popular RPs which keep players at game) have almost all units set on Other type, making it possible to play only with imp, blitz, IF and LB while the diversity should be way better). For non premiums (majority of new players) it's only imp and blitz and they usually pick blitz -- that's how we got to the increased amount of blitz players among every player category.

In short, stop trying to degrade me without any real arguments. You are fearing that a scenario player registered in 2015 can beat you in your competitive games. Say it openly, be honest. By the way, EU+ 10k players are reaching the tier of RP players and you're the one who is denying it by calling competitive players the best ones. (the true story is that there is no best tier of players)

I don't say you are bad, but that some people overrate you. There's a difference.

There are very few clans who I respect, because they aren't autistic and actually dare to play any map. They are basically two active coalitions -- MK and SM (which was destroyed by Illyria, the true version of a clan overstacked with high ranks). Of mostly EU-fag coalitions, I respect Immortals and BiteMe.

Tell me who pussies out of EU CWs? Yes, great EU overlord Opu left the CW T2. I think this was the best pussying out of CW I've seen so far.

Let's not even talk about Steve leaving CW T3 due to his total failure. He couldn't even beat clovis who DCed and did 0 moves. If I was online at that moment, no tie would happen. It's against ethics of fair play.

Was gonna lock this after reading half of the first page then the debate got a little more interesting and I figured if I lock this you guys would just go at it somewhere else (didn't see the second page yet tho). Better here than general discussion and what-not. Don't start name calling or bashing EC as a whole and I'll keep this open so you can vent out whatever you guys feel in a semi-civilized matter. To pitch in,
Goblin is right, to be good at this game you don't need intelligence. Which is why when the meta shifts some players get outdated and play bad and others adapt with ease. I can name several examples for both cases; the difference between them though is intelligence. Some players have played the game so so much that their rate-of-play and familiarization with each and every scenario is evident and pulls them up greatly. Other players haven't played the game as much (still dedicated countless hours though) but make it up using their intelligence. These players connect the dots, put two and two together, etc. Basically they make real-time conclusions about where to go and what the opponent is doing, and they can make up expansions on the spot and use several different strategies and countries on different maps.

Saying Desu and Chess are outdated and suck though that's just lol. They're both the second type of player, and I assure you they'd beat most people in this thread including me 3/4 times on a balanced map both sides have never played.

Oh and elo is an indicator of both activity and skill. More activity than skill, though.

and no Destoria isn't mostly about port control. But yes Dreawmorld more so than Destoria.

And yes EU is boring to play in every single game but face the facts when looking for a fair and competitive matchup EU+ is your best choice (not to be confused with 'your only choice'). World CW anyone?

World beats EU any day. Just need the time.
