Unsung Heroes

Post below stories of remarkable people whose story remain unknown or have been lost or faded into the history books.

My unsung hero is Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Petrov of the Soviet Union who was on duty at the Able Archer 83 incident.He correctly dismissed warnings of launched U.S. nuclear missiles and helped prevent the Soviet Union from launching a full-scale retaliation of nuclear missiles.The U.S. launch turned out to be a malfunction in the Soviet computers and never really happened. Petrov's cool-headed decision literally saved the world from total nuclear annihilation,and for that I congratulate him.
